Our
Story
Learner's Folio is a digital app that was created to help homeschooling parents document their child's learning journey with ease along with lessening the burden of trying to find the right curriculum for each child. Sommer, the founder, is a homeschool mama who, after attending a conference followed by the start of her first year of homeschooling, wanted an easy way to record her child's learning journey that was convenient and could happen anytime anywhere. In addition as a new homeschool parent she was frustrated with all the time and money she wasted with searching for the right curriculum for her child and her teaching style.
She found the drudgery of paper planners to not be convenient and just added another "to do" on her list of a million things to do. She found she was just not using them but constantly wished there was another way. She also spent hours searching for curriculum and trying various ones only to discover some were a good fit and some were not. Sommer wanted to free up time to spend with her family, spend more time enjoying the teaching process, and have less stress in tracking homeschooling and finding the right resources.
She felt like what she wanted was not out there, and so she decided to create it herself and Learner's Folio was established.
Learner's Folio is eager to bring ease to the lives of other families while making a difference in the community and beyond.

Meet the Founder
Hello, my name is Sommer and I am a retired international tour guide, having traversed the globe from Africa to Europe and North and South America, and finishing my career in Australia and New Zealand. After meeting my husband I decided it took me too long to find him and that I wanted to spend more time with him than my career allowed. After starting a family and moving back to the USA we decided that homeschooling was where are hearts were and I began the incredible, challenging, and yet deeply rewarding job of educating our children.
So now rather than have adventures year-round across the globe, I can delight in exploring, imagining, and adventuring in the education and learning of my kiddos, while also fullfiling my creative and entrepreneurial spirit with Learner's Folio. I love that I get to be a mom showing her girls that you can pursue your passion and dreams, and write your script for your life.
In addition to my love of learning and being the chauffeur for my kids' many activities, we spend many hours reading and delighting in great books, going on nature walks, having spontaneous dance parties, and traveling. I may be a retired tour guide to others but I am a forever tour guide and traveler with my family! Some of the best learning and education comes from getting out there and traveling.
I am excited to bring Learner's Folio to the homeschool community and anyone else that wants to document their learning experience, find great resources, and connect with other homeschool families. The days with our kids at home are numbered and even though the days can sometimes seem long, the years are short and I just love capturing every moment of it!
